Our buyer Tess says: “ In Milan I landed into 30’ degree heat - interspersed with heavy downpours . A lot of winter staples are over: chima di rappe, punterella, tardivo, and castle franco. This week was a full on taste-a-thon of delicious fruit: delicious Zerbinatti melons, MA Pri Mark flat white peaches, and even very delicate black and the white mulberries. On the tomato front, we have seen the start of zebrino torpedino and chocolate beef heart. Frigatelli Napoli peppers are in too and also the amazing little Sant Erasmus baby violet artichokes. Looking forward to seeing the marmite of the tomato world Cuore di Vesuvio - it’s not about the look it’s about the taste!”
Tess also recommends: white peaches, nectarines, Borlotti, courgettes of all kinds, fennel, Tropea onions, Abate pears, yellow and pueple cauliflowers.

Our buyer Andy says: “Excellent French apricots with nice colour in 3kg trays. Cherries - both red and white Rainier variety - exceptional quality, prices still a bit high but will come down. Best to call each day to see what’s available.
Strawberries still in fine form, particularly the lovely Mara de Bois. Gariguettes also available but currently commanding a bit more money. If you’re looking for value then kilo trays of Gariguette may be of interest.
Figs have made an appearance - Spanish for now and far superior to anything from Brazil. Fresh almonds now in full swing if that’s your – or your chef’s – cup of tea.
If you haven’t tried our tomatoes from Saveurs de Chailly - then get in touch. I’m slightly evangelical about these - the best tomatoes in Rungis cultivated in a way that respects the environment.
Finally something a bit different - Ile de Re potatoes, grown off the west coast of France and the only potatoes with AOC status. Harvested before full maturity to keep their tasty starchiness, the subtle salty taste is said to be down to the sandy soil and seaweed fertiliser. Available in 10kg boxes and 1.5kg wood pannibois. ”

Our buyer Gaelle says: “FRANCE: beautiful heritage tomatoes; affordable courgettes ready for export; banana shallot price v high and season soon ending before new crop in August; new-season leek price going up due to small volumes; carrots available, volumes are increasing. The artichoke fields in "Finistere" (North of Brittany) are beautiful - either little purple, baby artichokes or big Globe.
SPAIN: last courgettes available - affordable but big size mostly; chilies and Palermo still short; Galia melons have fragile quality; end of season on asparagus and artichokes; cherries still quite short; peaches and nectarines are available but demand is slow.
MOROCCO: small volumes on pumpkins; red chilies are back and price has dropped; green chilies are short and going up in price; Galia melons are short; watermelons are available - seedless black or stripey - prices have started to go up as volumes became shorter.”
