Fresh from Rungis

Our buyer says: "There are lots of apples and pears. I recommend trying the fruit from our grower Fabien Vassout - varieties such as Reine de Reinette, Canada, Fuji, Jubilé, Calville, Clochard, Guyot, Passe Crassane and Williams Blanches. There are small volumes of black figs and the first quince. French lemons have started. Chestnuts are excellent. There are lots of nice mushrooms around, especially ceps.”

Other lines include: Romanesque, purple and yellow cauliflowers, black radish, carrots, leeks, celeriac, Lautrec garlic, salsify.

Fresh from Milan

Our buyer says: "We got the first bergamots and clementines this week. Cedro is in season. There’s some decent autumn asparagus. The brassicas and bitter leaves have started: castelfranco, trevisse, puntarelle, catalogna and cime di rapa. Our lovely mixed boxes of radicchio have not yet started. There are still some peaches from Sicily, a late variety. Italian kaki fruit (a.k.a. persimmons) are excellent – very soft, that’s how they are supposed to be. There are lots of courgettes about. Aubergines are really good. Tomatoes are expensive and not very good: the summer season ones are finishing and the winter ones have not really started. Lots of grapes everywhere as well. Delicious Italian Costeria navel oranges are on their way back to London”

Other lines include: chestnuts, basil, aubergine, chillis, fennel, peppers, prickly pears, Zerbinati melons.

Our buyer Gaelle is available on +33 789 866 675. She says: "French courgettes are almost end of season and being replaced by the Spanish. French cauliflowers and leeks are quite short and expensive. From Brittany new season coloured carrots, banana shallots and Jerusalem artichokes are available. Romanesco is currently affordable and there are still some coloured cauliflowers about. Muscade and gourds are full season in France, and Portuguese Muscade are also available. Spanish figs are still going to be around for a few more weeks. Spanish broccoli is available, as well as aubergines which have increased in volume the last week and are good quality. Tomatoes have been short for a few weeks, and we still have to wait for another few weeks for the Moroccan to start. Some Moroccan goods have started in small volumes (green beans, coco flat beans, kapya, chilies). There is currently a shortage on Egyptian sweet potatoes."
